Fabian Villalobos

I have been teaching Karate for 14 years at Riverside – Westley United Methodist Church and Pomona – Westmont Park and have been practicing martial arts for 24 years. I am currently a 4th degree Black Belt with Young Champions, 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, and 1st Degree Black Belt in Judo.

Prior to teaching, martial arts taught me the importance of physical fitness, tenacity, and continual improvement. I learned that no one is perfect, but not to let that be a wall and stop me from further learning. I also learned that earning a black belt in one style was not the end of learning, that there are other arts and sports that I can participate in which would help my growth in the martial arts as well.

I love learning each and every technique, but there is more to it than punches and kicks. Truly mastering the martial arts requires learning how, why, and when the techniques are used. Along with the beneficial physical training, martial arts stimulates the mind by challenging the practitioner to develop strategy, control emotional responses, and empathize with others. All of these things gives me a respect for those who taught me and those come to my class to learn. I love teaching because I get a chance to pass on all the knowledge I have gained over the years. I get to talk about my philosophy on martial arts and introduce martial arts to a new generation.

I have placed in several tournaments and have earned several black belts over the years in Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Judo, and also appeared in Cuban Olympian Israel Hernandez’s DVD “Everything you need to know about Uchi Mata”. I have a love of science, engineering, and technology and perform research at University of California Riverside while I’m work on a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. I also love music, play guitar and write short stories in my spare time, and go to concerts when I can.

Alex Frias

I have been teaching karate almost 2 years now at Murdy Park in Huntington Beach My hobbies include videogames, reading, hanging with my friends The best part about teaching is watching the kids get better over the sessions and building a connection with them Something personal about me: I go to college and work a part time job including teaching at Young Champions.

John Wrotniewski

I have over 25 years of martial arts experience ranging from Shotokan, Karate, Tang So Doo, Muay Thai and Southern Shaolin Kung Fu.  I’ve been teaching with Young Champions for over 10 years in Pasadena and Azusa and am honored to be a senior instructor with this amazing organization.

My favorite thing about teaching is definitely the relationship building with the kids.  Unlike an academic setting, I keep the same kids from year to year, from White Belt to Black Belt, from Child to Adult, and have the blessing of seeing them grow; and in many ways, helping them do so.  My goals for them are high, and I actively help them attain them.

Personally I’m a husband and father of 3, a huge superhero geek, a Catholic Christian, a board game designer (and publisher!), and spend most of my free time playing with the kids.

David Singer

I have over 15 years of martial arts experience and have trained in several different styles. I have been teaching with Young Champions for 5years at Van Nuys, Hollywood and Culver City. Some of my hobbies include reading, exercising and playing trivia games.

The best part about teaching is seeing the joy my students feel in their progress.

“I like being involved with my students on a weekly basis and interacting with them. I enjoy seeing my student’s session after session, improving and evolving throughout the years into aspiring adults”

Something’s a little more personal about me is I love to watch horror, comedy and action films, playing video games, NBA, wrestling (WWE), and eating different types of food. I collect old transformer toys from the 80’s.  I also won the 4th grade spelling bee champion. Last but not least on my free time I also like visiting Taiwan and Las Vegas.

James Knight

I started with Young Champions in 2002 when I was 12 years old. I got my black belt and started teaching in 2010. I taught in Hesperia for 5 years, Apple Valley for 3 years and I’ve been teaching in Jurupa since September 2017. I briefly studied Taekwondo and Aikido. I enjoy watching martial arts movies, action comedies, love Marvel and DC, and I like to read, listen to music and spend time with my friends and family.

The best part about teaching for me is watching my students grow up over the years; watching them get better as martial artists, watching them become more confident and grow into leaders, seeing their interests change. If I could have any three super powers they would be to fly, have super speed and super strength.
